Most people don’t even know what pesto is. This wonderful tasty sauce is actually a great addition to any meal thanks to its unique flavor. The sauce is pretty versatile as well – you can spread it on paste, toast, wraps, sandwiches and even noodles. However, what many people don’t know is that pesto can actually improve our health as well.
The main ingredient in pesto is basil, one of the healthiest herbs in nature. Basil has relaxing and anti-inflammatory properties and has been a part of folk medicine for a long time. It can improve your immune system, reduce pain, clean the liver, relieve anxiety and stress and prevent diabetes. Basil has a dense and rich nutritional profile, including vitamins A, B and C as well as magnesium, calcium, iron, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, etc.
And, although pesto is beneficial for our health thanks to the basil, there’s one problem with it. Most recipes use parmesan in it, which isn’t suitable for people with dairy allergies. Plus, commercial pesto products almost surely contain additives and preservatives which aren’t exactly ideal for our health. This is why it’s best to prepare the sauce at home – the process is easier than you think, and contains all-natural ingredients which can boost your immune system, stimulate detoxification and even help you lose weight!
